In Today’s post, I will be telling you guys how to update your official Citra android emulator! Let’s begin by talking about the official Citra. Project Citra android official is an open-source 3ds emulator for android. It is a project that started for PC and then was ported to android and released on Playstore. Unfortunately, it is a misconception that official Citra android has stopped releasing updates for android.
It is partially true as the play store version has not been updated for a long time. But Citra does release new versions for android but they are present on its official page. Today I will be showing you how to update your citra android to either the latest nightly or canary builds. But before we update Citra, we need to find out if the latest versions are compatible with your android devices. For that, I have provided the minimum requirements for the official citra emulator android below.
Minimum Requirements:
- Android 8.0 or above
- Snapdragon 450 processor or above
- 3GB RAM (Can work on 2GB ram too but may crash)
- OpenGLES 3.2 GPU (Check on CPU-Z)
If you have modern (2022) low-end or midrange devices then you don’t need to worry as Citra will work on them, but may lag or crash depending on the device and GPU.
How to update Citra emulator android:
As mentioned, team citra now provides updates for android on their official web page! The updates are in two types of builds, nightly, and canary. Nightly builds are stable builds that contain already reviewed and tested features. The Canary build may come with additional features but it may not be stable.
Now if you have decided which build to go with then, open the link given below to the official citra download page and get the latest build.
In the beginning, it will ask you to get it on the google play store. But instead of clicking on that, you will have to click on the manual download option. This will present you with the latest Citra nightly and canary builds. Before you download, you will see the android logo next to the latest commit information. Click on that android logo and your download will start. Once you have downloaded the latest update you will need to first uninstall the old version of the official citra from your device or you might get an app not install issue. After that update citra and enjoy!
